Chamber Music coaching

Having spent 18 years performing and competing as a member of a full-time string quartet, chamber music is very dear to my heart. When all of the parts of an ensemble fit together in just the right way, magic happens. The individual sounds don't merely add to each other, but multiply each other. The end result is far greater than the sum of the separate parts.

As a chamber music coach, I work with each group to discover their best possible sound and greatest expressive possibilities. The goal is to sound effortlessly and powerfully unified. Fortunately, the way to create what seems like magic is actually the result of a few straight-forward factors: play in tune, play together, play beautifully, and be adaptable. Those four factors are easy to understand, but we can spend a lifetime trying to fully achieve them! It's my job as a chamber music coach to make sure each group knows exactly what to address next, and how to practice individually and as a group to fix it. In that way, achieving chamber music magic becomes simply a matter of investing the necessary time.

I'm also passionate about presenting the highest quality chamber music to young audiences. As a teaching artist, I have performed for thousands and thousands of students and young adults, in part through support from the National Endowment for the Arts and collaborations with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association.
